First thing we did was eat some watermelon. It's important to pace yourself... I think we only ate one watermelon on the first day. :)
Everything was going really well... we were all smiles. Then, I almost decided to pack up and leave.
John was backing his truck up, and bumped some one's boat trailer. The boat trailer started rolling down the hill, towards some kids. I seen it happen, and reacted as fast as I could. I caught up to the boat trailer about halfway down the hill and did my best to stop it. It all happened so fast, but I barely slowed it down. Within seconds, John and another guy ran over, and we all managed to stop the trailer before anyone got hurt.(Well, I won't count the ankle and hand injury I acquired.)
So while we were talking about it, Kyle and I were putting our life jackets on so we could put the SeaDoo in the water. Kyle was sitting on the ski, while it was still on the trailer. John and I were talking about the mishap from a few minutes ago... and CRASH. Poor Kyle fell off of the ski onto the ground, where the poor kid busted the side of his head open on a rock.
I picked him up, and couldn't believe how much he was crying. He is a tough kid... but I couldn't get him to say a word for about 30 minutes. After I got the bleeding to slow, he just wanted me to cover him up with a blanket... and lay in my arms. I was really starting to worry about a concussion.. but daddy's peek-a-boo game finally got him to come around.
(Good Lord, I needed a beer!)
I always love waking up the first morning by the lake. It's so peaceful... unless you wake up with King Sour-Puss....
Kyle was all smiles... as long as I kept him full of Tylenol. I can only imagine the headache he had... but even with a head injury... he's still cute as a button.
And just as we were about to serve blueberry pancakes and ham steaks, and some visitors showed up. It was Grandma and Grandpap... and he brought the fishing gear! So Zach's frown quickly turned upside down... Thank You Grandpap!
The boys have cast a small kid's fishing pole, but this was their first time with the real stuff. (Hooks and all if your keeping track of my blood pressure...)
Grandpap was really good with them...
Even helped Kyle reel in his first catch... it was very exciting...
Zach was off trying to catch a little girls' attention...
And poor Kyle Baer shows off his first catch. A big ol' fat weed... can you see how thrilled he is?
There was also something John was excited about. He got to put his hot rod boat in the water... I can't even tell you how many boys were lined up on the beach asking him about the engine... it's like sharks smelling blood... they just knew it was there... and they followed the smell.... lol.
(And yes, those boys had life jackets once the boat was off the trailer.)
We also got to go out on the water in our friends boat... Kyle just hung out like he'd done this a million times....
But the boys were laughing because Morgon's daddy was turning the boat where the water spray was getting them....
Yeah, he was just too cool to care about any water spray... you know he is a big boy now...
Unlike Uncle Joey (John's brother)... who was quite the kid.
We went out to the middle of the lake to go swimming... ahhhhh....
Which is always a ton of fun! That's Dusty... he and John have been friends since jr. high. He's also a big ol' kid... but he's sure become a great dad. He has the best stories... and you always laugh a ton with him...
and that happened to be a good thing. Since we came back to the beach to find John and the
Sherriff having a nice conversation... about the ticket he just got. (If your still keeping track of my blood pressure... get a bigger chart please).
Yeah... it was mostly a nice trip.
We had lots of delicious food, great visits with old friends... and some new company joined us this year. Way too much drama... did I tell you about Zach falling off his bike in the gravel? Overall though, camping is way too much work... but at the same time... family time for three days is too good to pass up!
It was a good thing the weather was perfect... and the beer was cold... it somehow took all the other stuff and made it disappear. Next year, I will duct tape the boys to the RV in an effort to keep the drama to a minimum, I promise.
