My little Punkin-Doodle

Last October, my sweet little punkin-doodle was stung by a wasp on his hand. He had a terrible reaction that landed him in the emergency room with signs of blood poisoning. Now that the sun is shining, I noticed the wasps flying about. I took Kyle to the doctor, and he did a blood test to see if Kyle was actually allergic. It came back positive, and the doctor thinks each time Kyle is stung, the reactions will keep getting worse. His recommendation was that we carry a shot of of epinephrine with us at all times.

It's going to be a new worry for a mom that already worries too much. I have to teach each of his care-givers how to administer his shot. After the shot, he has to be taken to the emergency room. Doesn't that sound like fun?
We have explained to Kyle how important it is to let us know if he is stung, and we have practiced with the 'pretend' Epi-Pen. He might be surprised when the real Epi-Pen puts a needle into his leg- since the pretend one doesn't have one.
The good news in all this is insurance! We only had to pay $25 for almost $400 worth of epinephrine. The meds are only good for a year- and that could be quite expensive!
Oh well, he is worth any amount of money... I am just thankful we are prepared now. I am thankful for health insurance and glad we have the knowledge to keep my little punkin-doodle safe, healthy and happy.
Perhaps I should keep a bottle of wine in my purse too, just in case... ;)
