Little Gems

We made it through the second week of school. We're all sick with nasty head colds... welcome back fall! ;)
As with the start of the new school year, it's an adventure to get both boys in the van and Zach to school on time. One day this last week, we drove past a property where the homeowner was using his tractor to move his travel trailer out of the garage.
Zach exclaimed, "They can't do that!"
I said, "Sure they can, why can't they?"
He responded "No Mom! They can't go on vacation like that.. they'll be TOO slow!"

I laughed all the way to school that morning.

In the interest of fair reporting, I must also tell you about the little gem Zach dropped in Olive Garden. We took John there to celebrate his birthday, and after more than half of our 'adult' beverages were gone- my brother gave Zach a bad time about something.

Zach's response "I'm going to whoop your ass Uncle David."

The look on my brother's face was priceless, and when he started laughing, I followed suit. Then we couldn't stop laughing, even though I'd noticed the older couples at the next table become rigid and quite offended, I couldn't stop. Ahhh... good times.

(And for the record I don't ever remember saying that to Zach... well... pretty sure anyway! lol)

I love that he decided to say that for the first time in a public setting... not at home where I could correct him.

But as far as our first two weeks of first grade, things have gone smoothly. Zach's teacher is just the perfect combination of firm, but compassionate. Next week we will get into our full schedule with homework and spelling tests, and that should be interesting.

I learned at the back to school night this week, that by the end of the year, Zach should be reading! He can read very simple books right now, but he will have the skill to sound out unknown words. Wow...

Kyle is awesome on the playground this year. He is running and throwing ball with the kids. I can't believe how much he's grown this year. He's already talking about going to kindergarten next year... sniff sniff.
This is Zach standing in line after the bell rang. He's one of the shortest kids in his class again, and I'm sure that has to do with the fact he's the youngest again. It's okay, he's also one of the smartest I bet!

When I put him to sleep last night, he said to me "Mom, I love you so much it breaks my heart into two sandwiches!"
Now that's love!
Too bad he didn't save that gem for when we were out in public.
